from Project for Public Spaces
Project for Public Spaces (PPS)
is a world-renowned non-profit organization dedicated to creating
and sustaining public places that build communities, and has
extensive experience with the design of urban streets. They
have been a leader in training and demonstration projects
for a new approach to street and road design that is taking
place nationally - called "Context Sensitive Design"
(CSD) or "Context Sensitive Solutions" (CSS).
PPS and Glatting Jackson were asked by the McKnight Foundation
to review the design documents that have been developed for
the Lake Street reconstruction project in terms of how the
proposals do or do not support community development goals.
Glatting Jackson is a seasoned transportation planning and
traffic engineering firm focused on planning and designing
livable communities, and has worked on innovative projects
across the country.
Working together, they prepared a report summarizing their
review and recommendations for both the Lake Street Reconstruction
and the Excess Project. This report was released by the McKnight
Foundation on August 3 2004. We have obtained a copy of this
report and gladly make it available for your review, along
with other documents and visualizations we have received.
